Early Settlers in Kensington & Fishtown Circa 1729-1750
The below list of individuals was culled from the sources listed here. The names of the individuals are given and after their name is a code. The codes correspond to the following sources:
APW = Anthony Palmer's Will. These names were taken from Anthony Palmer’s Will of May 30, 1749. HSP, Logan Papers, 13, 76.
EEM = Evans Estate Map. These names were taken from the Lewis Evans Estate Map of Anthony Palmer ca.1750, which I copied off the map into a notebook. These need to be checked again. Copy of map is at HSP.Main Branch of the Philadelphia Free Library has xerox copy.
GI = Grantor's Index. These names are taken from the Grantor's Index that shows who Anthony Palmer sold lots to, or rented property to, in Kensington. The Grantors/Grantees Index is on microfilm at HSP or at Philadelphia City Archives.
PCT = Philadelphia County Taxes. These names were taken from “Landholders of Philadelphia County, 1734” for Northern Liberties. I believe these are from the "Publications of the Genenealogical Society of Pennsylvania, Dec. 1898, Miscellany No. 2," but need to check this item again.
SK = Survey Kensington. These names were taken from the “Palmer Estate Information copied from a book in the possession of the Trustees of the Kensington or Palmer Burial Ground which said book was copied from a book in the possession of Jonathan Wainwright May 1865, copied here Feb 1885. A Survey of Kensington.” This item is located at HSP, it was so long ago that I looked at it, its probably in the Logan Papers, possibly pages 97-104, I need to look it up again for the correct citation. This would presumably be from an original survey taken circa 1750, perhaps even duplicated from the Evans Estate Map listed above. Needs to be researched further.
