Ninth Annual Report of the Controllers of the Public Schools of the First School District of the State of Pennsylvania: with their Accounts. Philadelphia: Printed by Order of the Board of Control, William Fry, Printer, 1827.

 

 

 

The number of students in the district are 3,992:

 

Kensington: Boys 216, Girls 211, Total 427

 

Southwark, 701, Northern Liberties, 582 were the only districts outside the city with more students.

 

Disposed in classes as follows:

 

Kensington:

Boys:  Alphabet 14, Spelling 51, Reading 151, Arithmetic 103, Paper Writers 61

Girls:  Alphabet 6, Spelling 43, Reading 162, Arithmetic 93, Paper Writers 65

 

These children are distributed as follows, under the care of the respective boards:

Directors of the Second Section, Northern Liberties and Kensington …1009

 

Second Section Expenses:

 

Teachers’ salaries, wood, stationary, and rent of Adelphi Schook, $2,477.75

School Furniture                                                                                 $    36.25

Total                                                                                                  $2,514.00

 

Directors of the Second section, for that part of the Northern Liberties and Kensington not comprised in the Lancasterian system, the Controllers drew orders for $686.66
