Shackamaxon
This map shows Shackmaxon as it was patented to the early Swedish settlers of the Delaware Valley. The map was compiled from old land deeds by Hannah Benner Roach and published in the Historical Society of Pennsylvania's "Magazine of History & Biography," Vol. 92, 1968.
Eventually Shackamaxon would be broken down and sold off. Most of Shackmaxon came into the hands of Anthony Palmer, Isaac Norris, William Masters, and William Ball. The current day Philadelphia neighborhoods of Kensington and Fishtown, as well as a large part of Port Richmond, all are located in the old Shackamaxon Tract.
