CAPTAIN JOHN HEWSON’S COMPANY

This list for John Hewson's Company was supplied by Todd Fielding. It is readily available in the PA Archives Series. If you would like to read a biography of John Hewson, see my article located to the left in the menu under Kensington Biographies. Besides being America's first calico printer of textiles, he was also considered Kensington's Revolutionary War Hero. He is buried in the northwest corner of Palmer Cemetery, near the gate on the Montgomery Street side towards Memphis street. His marker in lying flat on the ground, sunken in some. His company of men, it is said, were made up from his workers at his textile works, as well as other locals in Kensington. While some of the names are familiar Kensington surnames for this period (Baker, Beidaman, Eyre, Fauns, Gosser, Painter, Pote, Sheets/Sheetz, Sorrick, Ties/Tees, Vaughan,  etc., many of whom were shipwrights and fishermen),  others still need to be researched.

From Pennsylvania Archives, Second Series, Vol. XIII - Pennsylvania in the War of the Revolution, Associated Battalions and Militia, 1775-1783, Vol. I; edited by William H. Egle, M. D.; Clarence M. Busch, State Printer of Pennsylvania, 1896; pp. 705-707:
